(un.der.stand) 1.to perceive the meaning of; grasp the idea of; comprehend. 2.to be thoroughly familiar with; apprehend clearly the character or nature of. 3. to comprehend by knowing the meaning of the words employed, as a language. 4. to grasp clearly as a fact, or realize. 5. to take as a fact, or as settled. 6. to get knowledge of; learn or hear. 7.to accept as a fact; believe. 8.to conceive the meaning of in a particular way. 9.to supply mentally, as a word necessary to complete sense. 10.to perceive what is meant. 11.to have the use of the intellectual faculties. 12.to have information or knowledge about something. 13.to be informed; believe.
